https://minimalinthecity.com/parenting-motherhood-in-the-age-of-fear/ A Preppy Chicago Life, Style and Fashion Blog Sun, 21 Oct 2018 16:44:19 +0000 hourly 1 https://wordpress.org/?v=6.9.4 https://minimalinthecity.com/parenting-motherhood-in-the-age-of-fear/#comment-38647 Sun, 21 Oct 2018 16:44:19 +0000 https://minimalinthecity.com/?p=168182#comment-38647 sad to say …. but i am way happier now that my youngest is over 18 years old than i had been during my children’s entire childhood ….. the motherhood fear is real …. and for me it started with a Brooklyn doctor-on-call home visit when my oldest was 4 months old (he is now 30, so this has been going on a long time) ….. he had a high fever and it was mid winter past midnight and I called a medical service that sent a pediatrician to the house ….. and I just wanted to keep him home instead of taking him to the ER at that time ….. this doctor checked him out and prescribed medication and then started snooping around my house … he noticed in particular that i didn’t have sticky anti slip mats in my tub …. i told him that my baby is never bathed in the tub directly but rather in a sitting ring while I am there the whole while ( this baby was 4 months old …. who in the hay would leave a baby this age alone in a tub?) but this doctor was stuck on my not having anti slip mats in the bathtub …. and told me that he would be returning to check on my son in two days and would have to report me to DCF if the anti-slip mats weren’t in the tub ….. my oldest was 4 months old then … and my fear of someone noticing me doing something wrong and reporting it to the DCF lasted for almost 23 years until my youngest turned 18 …..
